TRAVEL INFO

Brisbane

Brisbane has evolved in recent years to boldly stand proud about its thriving gay and lesbian scene. It’s where festivals such as the Brisbane Pride Festival (June) and Brisbane Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (April) fuse with a flourishing scene of gay-friendly bars, clubs, restaurants and accommodation options.

The centre of Brisbane’s scene is Fortitude Valley (The Valley) and its neighbouring suburb, Spring Hill. Here, you will find everything from gay-friendly accommodation, bars & nightclubs to popular alfresco dining hangouts including gay run delis and restaurants, trendy art-house cafes and cinemas. Other regions to explore include, Wooloongabba and West End, where you can check in to gay-friendly accommodation to enjoy the local gay friendly bars, cafes and restaurants that call these areas home.

Head to Spring Hill for drag show bars and pubs, or for something a little different the Mineshaft Bar, also in Spring Hill. But the hive of all gay and lesbian life has got to be The Valley. The Wickham, a typical Queenslander style pub, draws huge weekend crowds and is also popular mid-week with its drag shows. The Beat Megaclub is a dance mecca for all types and is the hive of Brisbane’s gay clubbing scene. The Valley’s gay and lesbian venues also include Sunday nights at club Family, as well as Sunday nights at the trendy GPO Hotel. There’s the great live music of The Zoo, the gay-friendly Empire Hotel, The Bowery, Ric's Bar, as well as The Fringe Bar - all popular gay and lesbian hangouts.
