This award-winning rail journey offers an ideal way to take in the picturesque coastal stretch between Brisbane and Cairns. Or for a more affordable way to experience the inland coast of Queensland, The Sunlander travels return from Brisbane to Cairns three times per week. Meandering through scenic lush countryside, The Sunlander passes the coastal towns of Bundaberg and Gladstone, taking you through to the sub-tropical regions of Mackay, Proserpine and Bowen, until reaching its final destination in Cairns. Then there’s the Spirit of the Tropics rail journey, operating twice weekly return services from Brisbane to Proserpine and Townsville. Popular amongst backpackers and adventure travellers alike, the Spirit of the Tropics provides a fun and relaxed way to experience Queensland’s islands and tropical north. But for quicker journey between Brisbane and Cairns, the high-speed Tilt Train offers a scenic travelling experience at a much faster pace.
