Southern Beaches

The beaches along the Southern Queensland coastline offer some of the best surfing beaches in the world. But your Southern Queensland beach experience offers so much more than the thrill of surfing clear blue waves. The region actually takes in the 57 kilometre stretch of the Gold Coast, the laid back beaches and coves of the Sunshine Coast, as well as the uniquely natural experiences you will find along the Fraser Coast and the islands of Moreton Bay.

Boasting a year-round perfect sub-tropical climate of warm sunny days and clear blue skies, the Gold Coast is where the Aussie’s go to holiday and it’s no wonder why. Combine pristine golden beaches, great shopping, dining and nightlife; with theme parks and an amazing natural biodiversity of rainforests and island wildernesses and you get the perfect holiday experience. Cheer on local heroes as they fight it out for the title of Australian and international lifesaving and surfing champion, or try it out for yourself with a hired surf board or surf lesson.

Head a little further north to the Sunshine Coast and experience true Queensland laid-back style along a coastline of secluded beaches, hidden coves and endless stretches of wide golden beaches. Families will love the diverse beaches of Caloundra, whereas surfing enthusiasts will love the breaks of Alexander Heads and Noosa’s famous waves. Or there’s the youthful trendiness of Mooloolaba, where beachside cafes, bars and boutique clothing stores overlook a stunning coastline of clear blue waves and wide golden sands. Head out on a diving trip to a sunken navy vessel (just off the Mooloolaba shoreline) or pretend to be a castaway on a sandy cay on the Maroochy River.

Further north and you will discover the amazing natural diversity of the Fraser Coast, including the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island. Experience driving in a 4WD along a highway made of sand - the beach - or take a scenic flight over the island and ocean. Drive past dramatic sand dunes just beckoning you to surf down or visit colourful sand cliffs showcasing nature’s natural rainbow.
